Inspiring Inclusion: ADA Transition Plan (Public Meeting #2)
From "Inspiring Inclusion: Parks & Recreation ADA Transition Plan"
Go to the project
Allen Parks and Recreation is working to make the city's parks, trails and facilities more accessible and enjoyable for everyone, while also ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). With the help of a consulting firm which specializes in accessibility planning, the department is collecting data on current amenities and asking for public input to help set future priorities.
This public engagement meeting will introduce the consulting team and provide attendees with an understanding of the purpose of the ADA Transition Plan and who benefits from the plan. The consultants will introduce the 4 Pillars of Accessibility which guide the planning efforts and discuss the “blue sky” thinking approach that is employed to elevate this plan above and beyond the norm.
Those who attend these meetings will learn about how the consultant team evaluated each park and building, using both common and proprietary technologies to identify where ADA compliance exists, and where actions need to be taken to achieve compliance. The consultant’s findings will be presented, followed by a question and answers session in which citizen feedback and concerns will be gathered for the benefit of everyone.
