Where We've Been

January 1, 2026 6:00 AM - January 2, 2026 6:00 AM

Overview

Cottonwood Bend has two main entryway features along Main St. Both are a considerable distance away from the neighborhood itself. This pilot project focused on the entryway at Roaring Springs Dr. and Main St. The entryway was missing neighborhood signage with non-existing landscape or hardscape materials. Below are the major phases of the project's timeline:

  1. Requesting feedback via neighborhood survey
  2. Hosting a neighborhood public meeting
  3. Launching resident committee
  4. Organizing neighborhood workday
  5. Publishing project updates as needed
  6. Celebrating with a block party

Recap

Public Meeting

The neighborhood meeting was held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Vaughn Elementary School located at 820 Cottonwood Dr. About 80 residents attended offer input on the project. Their feedback included visual preferences for entryway improvements, as well as other suggestions for potential future projects in the neighborhood. Over half of the residents in attendance volunteered to help with the project, including organizing the workday and block party. This group of volunteers offered additional guidance and input for the project itself and helped organize the neighborhood block party.

Workday & Entryway Signage

The city recommended that all structures remain with updated landscaping, masonry, and new signage with consistent branding. The resident committee provided input and approved the final design. A workday was organized for Saturday morning, November 6, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Twenty-three neighbors volunteered to help clean up the entryways' landscape beds, laying new dirt and mulch, and re-planting the entrance features at Hightrail Dr. and Jupiter Rd. They also performed general litter cleanup throughout the neighborhood, as well as right-of-way (ROW) maintenance.

Block Party

The neighborhood block party happened Saturday evening, October 8, 2022 at Cottonwood Bend Park. The planning committee recruited other volunteers, coordinated food options, worked with outside vendors, and engaged their neighborhood by canvassing the entire neighborhood with doorhangers. Over 400+ Fountain Park Estates residents came out to connect with neighbors, have fun, and celebrate the project.
